Punjab and J&K Zone declared Overall Champion in DAV National Sports, Delhi-NCR runner up

Punjab and J&K Zone capped off a remarkable performance by claiming the title of Overall Champion in the three-day DAV National Sports for Girls concluded at DAV University Jalandhar on Friday. The Zone finished with a stunning 140 points in different individual and team events.

The overall champion of the last DAV national championship, Delhi-NCR stumbled to the second position with 107 points and declared the Runner Up. Jharkhand Zone finished third with 86 points.

The competition proved eventful for Punjab and J&K Zone this year as they graduated to the top slot this year from the third position, it acquired in the last games.

More than 3000 school girls under 19 years of age from across the nation representing 15 zones went head-to-head for proving their mettle in highly charged 24 sports competitions. The event was hosted by DAV University under the aegis of DAV College Managing Committee, New Delhi.

The medals and prizes were given away by Dr Manoj Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, DAV University. Dr Manoj Kumar said that the girls pushed the limit very far. “I admire their spirit because they are always up for new challenges,” he added. Dr Manoj Kumar expressed gratitude to DAVIET, Police DAV Public School, DAV College and Dayanand Model School (Dayanand Nagar) for hosting some events on their campuses. He also thanked the principals of different DAV institutions who put in their efforts to make the event a success.

Several girls were also honoured for their incredible performance in the sports events. Pooja Kumari from Jharkhand Zone was declared the best player in kho kho. The girls declared best in other games: Yashi (Delhi) in archery, Samridhi (Punjab and J&K Zone) badminton, Aditi (Haryana and Chandigarh) hockey, Dipti (Uttrakhand) judo, Vani (Haryana and Chandigarh) karate, Dharti (Delhi NCR) in lawn tennis, Nancy (Haryana and Chandigarh) wushu, Saumya (Haryana and Chandigarh) wrestling, Aditi (Punjab and J&K) basketball, Sukhmandeep (Punjab and J&K) kabaddi, Yashika Sharma (Delhi-NCR) table tennis, Konkna Ghosh (West Bengal) Yoga.

 

Various dignitaries present at the occasion included Dr K N Kaul, Registrar, Dr Sanjeev Nawal, Principal, DAVIET, Dr Yeshbeer Singh, Deputy Director, Sports, DAV University, Dr Rashmi Vij, Principal, Police DAV Public School and Principal Ravi Sharma.
