Keeping up with the spirits of the nation in celebrating the International Yoga Day, DAV University celebrated the Yoga Day under the title YOG FOR PEACE AND HARMONY with great eagerness and enthusiasm. The motive of this celebration was to create awareness on the physical and mental well being among the faculty and staff. The celebration of International Yoga Day was graced by the presence of Dr. Jasbir Rishi, Vice Chancellor, DAV University; Dr. K.N. Kaul, Registrar, DAV University; Dr. R.K. Seth, Dean Academics followed by other faculty and staff members.
Extending good wishes for health, happiness and well being for all, the Vice Chancellor, Dr. Jasbir Rishi stressed on adopting Yoga to stay happy and healthy in life. She said in today’s situation, practicing Yoga to keep one’s mental and physical being healthy has become even more relevant. She said that regular yoga practice lead to better mental, physical and intellectual health. It positively changes the lifestyle of the people and increase the level of well being. She further advised the faculty members to be always thankful to the Almighty.
The Yoga Expert, Dr. Manju Deorari taught some important physical, mental and spiritual practices to the participants which would help them in improving their health. She guided the participants with different asanas and explained their importance in daily life.
Different asanas were demonstrated and performed which included Tadasana, Trikonasana (Triangle Pose), Kursiasana (Chair Pose), Virdabhadrasana, Utkatasana, Parsvottanasana etc. Surya Namaskar was also performed and followed by Pranayama (Bhastrika, kapalabhati, Bhramari, anuloma, viloma kriyas) and meditation, that connects link between physical (asanas) and mental (meditation) yogic practices which increases and enhances the quantity and quality of prana(life).
