DAV University, Jalandhar celebrated international women’s day on the theme “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow” on 8th March 2022. The event started with DAV Gaan and lamp lighting by honourable guests Mrs. Aruna Arora (MC Jalandhar) and Mrs. Indu Bala (MLA Mukerian) along with honourable Vice chancellor (Offg.) Dr. Jasbir Rishi, Dr. K N Kaul (Offg. Registrar), Dr. R K Seth (Offg. Dean Academics) and the members of women empowerment cell of the university.
In her address, the Vice Chancellor emphasized on the integral role of women in society and the need to empower them for the overall development of the nation. She advised the students to focus on inner potential to attain self-actualization.
Dr. Rashmi Vij, Principal of Police DAV Public School, Jalandhar, delivered a virtual talk on gender sensitization and enlightened the students with her wise and inspirational thoughts. Her lecture was an insight into the present scenario of women in the society where women have strongly emerged with their roles in different spheres. The subsequent change is to be imbibed and accepted by the men of the society where they have to learn their new roles towards gender equity. The practical examples laden with personal experiences of Dr. Vij added much more relevance to the theme of the event.
Afterwards, Ms. Rupam and Ms. Navjot Kaur (National debate winners) debated on the topic “The cause of crime against women is not weak laws but lack of awareness”.
The Guests of Honour also expressed their views on gender equality and the need to empower women. The event concluded with the vote of thanks by Dr. Tejinder Kaur, convener, women empowerment cell.
