DAV University formed women self-help groups with the aim to impart skilled training to women from nearby villages on the occasion of International Women’s Day. Women would prepare value-added products from horticultural produce (fruits and vegetables) under the guidance of the university experts and they will be economically and socially stable. Mrs. InduBala, MLA Mukerian, and Mrs. Aruna Arora, MC Model town Jalandhar, inaugurated the event by cutting the ribbon.

On this occasion, Vice Chancellor, Dr. Jasbir Rishi, Registrar, Dr. K. N. Kaul, and Dean Academics, Dr. R. K. Seth, were also present. Dr. Rishi emphasized the need for the society-Academia linkage for the betterment of mankind. She said that DAV University has adopted surrounding villages and is also establishing SC clusters. Dr. Tejinder Kaur shed light on the importance and relevance of women self-help groups in the social development of rural women. For the programme, the University had received a grant from DST, Govt of India through Punjab State Council for Science and Technology. Dr. A. H. Reddy, Dr. Ashutosh Sharma and Dr. Rahul Kumar from the Faculty of Agriculture Sciences coordinated the event and Dr. Reddy imparted skilled training to a number of rural women for value addition to horticultural produce to earn a livelihood. In total, 31 women participated in the training programme. The event was followed by lunch and it was discussed that such events would be organized in DAV University for the upliftment of women, especially those who belong to the weaker sections of society.
