A two-day national workshop on writing and publishing a quality research paper in Commerce and Business Management was organized on February 8-9 by the Faculty of Business Studies at DAV University. The workshop was attended by 65 delegates from 15 Cities of 6 North Indian States Punjab, Himachal, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The workshop was inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor of DAV University Dr. Desh Bandhu Gupta and the Registrar Dr. Sushma Arya.
Dr. Sandeep Vij Associate Professor in Management at DAV University conducted this workshop as the resource person. He shared that the purpose of the workshop was to develop the research skills of the Commerce and Management faculty and researchers. The specific focus of the exercises during the workshop was on going deeper into the technicalities involved in writing a quality manuscript and publishing it in reputed research journals.
Dr. Vij emphasized the importance of literature review and oriented the participants for a focused in-depth study of the literature to contribute to their respective domains. During the eight sessions in the workshop spread over two days, he trained the participants in different components of a research paper viz. development of hypotheses, methodology, analysis, discussion, tables and figures, references, introduction, abstract and the title. There was a detailed discussion on avoiding plagiarism, finding the appropriate research journal as an outlet for the research paper, the process of manuscript submission, and the peer-review process.
The participants found the workshop highly interactive and informative. In their feedback, they requested more research specific workshops of this kind from the organizers. The Vice-Chancellor Dr. Desh Bandhu Gupta, during his valedictory address, motivated the delegates to produce quality research papers and offered them to use all research facilities and guidance available at DAV University. The workshop was coordinated by Dr. Saloni Raheja and Ms. Pallavi Rattan from the Department of Commerce and Business Management under the guidance of Dr. Girish Taneja, Head of the Department.
