Anwar Jamaal, Yashpal Sharma kick start DAVU Film Festival

Noted film personalities Anwar Jamaal, Yashpal Sharma, Ravi Chauhan and Ravinder Kaul set the ball of DAVU Film Festival 2019 at DAV University. The three-day film festival and film appreciation workshop is being organized by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, DAV University.

The festival started with the welcome address of Dr Desh Bandhu Gupta, Vice-Chancellor. He said that films were one of the most potent medium of communication and social awareness. He said that the launch of the festival at the University coincided with the birth anniversary of a celebrated Indian filmmaker, producer and actor V. Shantaram.

Addressing the audience, famous documentary maker Mr. Anwar Jamaal talked about the “democracy of technology”. He said that cinema takes the audience into a different zone. He said that the independent cinema incorporates thoughts from all walks of life free of any conflict.

Mr. Yashpal Sharma, a theatre and film actor, interacted with the audience. Mr Yashpal Sharma talked about changing scenario of film making. He said that films had started taking note of rural issues which was pleasant.

The first day of the festival witnessed the screening of Court – an Indian multilingual legal drama film, written and directed by Chaitanya Tamhane in his directorial debut. Another movie showcased at the inauguration was Jab Na Din Dhale Na Raat Chale directed by Tripurari Sharan.

The festival is also witnessing short film making documentary in association with Dev Talkies.

The dignitaries present at the occasion included Dr Sushma Arya, Registrar, Dr Jasbir Rishi, Dean Students Welfare, Dr Yeshbeer Singh, Director Sports, Ms Geeta Kashyap, HoD, faculty members of Department of Journalism and Mass Communication Dr Vijayta Taneja and Mr H K Singh were also present at the occasion. The festival was anchored by the journalism students Raghav, Rohit, Sakshini Prabhakar, Raghav Jain and Muskan Jolly.

The festival was sponsored by 91.9 FM Radio City, PTC Network, PTC Box Office, Aus-Global Study, Dreamworks, Edutech, DRS Home Furniture and Dev Takies.
