On September 15,1959, India was introduced to the new window of Television through which Indians could expose themselves to this audio visual medium. It was on this day, that Doordarshan started its journey of sharing the moving images with the people. On the 60th anniversary of this day, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, DAV University organised an interactive session. The resource persons for this session were Senior Journalist Mr. Jatinder Pannu, and Dr. Jasbir Rishi( Dean, Students Welfare, DAV University), who has also been associated with DD Jalandhar for more than three decades. On this occasion, Dr. Desh Bandhu Gupta (VC, DAV University) along with Dr Geeta Kashyap (HoD, Department of JMC) welcomed the speakers.
Interacting with the students on the occasion, worthy Dr Gupta shared his views about the potential of mass media for its users. While addressing the students, Mr. Jatinder Pannu threw light on the journey of DD as well as AIR in India from their origin to the contemporary times. He also talked about the exceptional role played by Doordarshan in informing and educating the heterogeneous segments of masses of the nation about the issues of development in India and its associated problems. During question answer session, he took up the queries of the students related to various issues reported in the media. Dr. Jasbir Rishi too shared her experiences during her long journey with DD Punjabi as a news anchor. She inspired the students to remain devoted towards the process of practical learning. The stage was conducted by students Gurpreet Singh and Raghav. Vote of thanks was expressed by Dr. Vijayta Taneja. Along with Dr. Hari K. Singh, students from Department of Journalism and Mass Communication and Management also attended the session.
