India’s leading company Tata Steel Limited held a workshop for students, practising architects and engineers at DAV University, Jalandhar. The workshop on Safe Structural Designing and Architectural Green Building Construction was conducted in collaboration with the Civil Engineering Department of the University.
The workshop highlighted the latest techniques for applying joints in columns and beams in building structures. It also apprised the participants of the importance of concrete compaction, curing and maintaining the adequate water-cement ratio.
An expert from Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College (GNDE) Ludhiana, Dr Prof Harvinder Singh said that simple precautions at the time of construction go a long way in protecting steel bars and enhancing the life of structures. Dr Rajinder Ghai, Executive Engineer, Irrigation Department talked about earth-quake resistant building structures. He said that strong structures required optimum use of concrete, steel and other building materials using scientific structural design.
Earlier, welcoming the experts Mr Rohin Kaushik, assistant professor at the Department of Civil Engineering said that such workshops provide practical experience to the students and professionals. Mr Sudhir Arora, head, and faculty members of the Civil Engineering Department including Mr Ranjodh Singh and Mr Gaurav Sharma were also present on the occasion.
