Media a political socialization tool to change the society

On 16/Nov/2017 Department of Journalism and Mass Communication of DAV University, Jalandhar organized a seminar on National Press Day, 2017 . Dr. K. K. Rattu an eminent media personality, Dr. Sukhnandan Singh of Dev Sanskriti University, Haridwar, Mr. Raman Meer , Editor, DainikBhaskar , Jalandhar ,eminent Scientist and VC of DAV University Dr. A. K. Paul and Registrar Dr. RekhaKalia Bhardwaj and Dean students welfare Dr. Jasbir Rishi  were present among the distinguished dignitaries .

In his opening remark Dr. K.K Rattu put a light on the significance of this day. He talked about the changing face of press and Journey of National press Day. He shared his vast experience on media and how press has influenced the modern-day social life. Hon’ble VC Dr. A.K Paul emphasized on the role of Press on Nation Building.  He said that media as a means of political socialization tool to transform people into citizen and link them to national political culture and how media informs the risks associated with the decay of political system.

Keynote speaker Dr. Sukhnandan Singh said media is going through a identity crisis specially electronic media with his sensational breaking news and senseless noise in the form panel discussion is matter of concern. Though print media stands apart in this media crowd. Though increasing interference of ads and dominance of negative news in the front page are a matter of concern. The trend of positive news has started within the limited space .Today the whole media has shrunk into a mobile and with social media every media consumer is also play a role of a communicator. People can play a big role by spreading positive messages among societies.

Mr. Raman Meer editor of DainikJagaran, Jalandhar Edition said that the role and nature of media professionals are changing. Future of journalism belongs to the specialized journalism. He advised journalism students to prepare themselves for fierce competition as in most of the developed countries printing of newspapers slowing down. He concluded his speech with the firm reiteration that press may be slowing down but the need for journalist and search for truth will never fizzle out.

The portal launched in collaboration with HDFC Bank is in conformity with the Prime Minister’s Digital India initiative.
