The farmers from Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir visited the department of Agricultural Sciences

The farmers from Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir visited the department of Agricultural Sciences, DAV University Jalandhar on August 4, 2017 under Capacity Building Programme - Sadbhavana organised by the Indian Army’s regiment JAKLI (J&K Light Infantry).  Capt. Narinder along with 08 other army officials and 26 farmers of the block Chowkibal of Kupwara region of J&K interacted with the faculty of Agriculture and visited the agricultural farm at Alawalpur.  

Capt. Narinder briefly introduced the Indian Army's goodwill drive “Operation Sadbhavana” and emphasised upon the need of this programme in border and terrorist-hit areas of J&K. He informed that this visit is a platform where the farmers can interact with the agricultural experts and informally share their problems. Dr. A.K. Paul, Vice-Chancellor, DAVU welcomed and appreciated this movement of Indian Army. He also emphasised that such campaigns and visits are mutually beneficial for farmers, students and the faculty.

Dr. Rekha Kalia Bhardwaj, Registrar, DAVU discussed about the need of literacy and awareness among farmers for the upliftment of agriculture in the region. Dr. Jasbir Rishi, Dean Academics, DAVU introduced the guests about the DAV organization and its contributions. She also highlighted the issues of high use of fertilizers, pesticides and adversities faced by farmers. Dr. Anju Pathania, Coordinator, Department of Agricultural Sciences graciously welcomed  the guests and told that this capacity building tour between academicians, farmers and defence personnel will be helpful in building a healthy society.

Dr. Ashutosh Sharma introduced the expertises of faculty of Agricultural Sciences for further discussion on issues related to J&K farmers. While addressing the queries of the farmers Prof. (Dr.) R.S. Rekhi stressed the importance of soil testing and gave demonstration on soil sampling. Prof. (Dr.) G. S. Saroa discussed about nutrient deficiencies, fertilisers uses and organic farming for better yield.

Dr. R. D. Ghatak shared his views on agronomical practices of the field crops grown in that particular region. Dr. Puja Rattan discussed the issues faced by J&K farmers, elite crop varieties and vegetable crops of the region. Dr. Aditi Sharma suggested various management practices to maintain disease of important vegetables/stone fruits. Dr. Chandra Pandey highlighted the importance of improved fruit varieties and weather conditions to establish the orchards of different fruit crops.

The issues and concerns raised by farmers regarding different insect and pests and their management were addressed by Dr. Sumit Vashisth. Dr. A.K. Vats told about the improved seeds and latest agricultural techniques. Dr. Rahul Kumar, Dr. Indu Sharma, Mr. Ram Avtar, Er. Renu Rawat, Dr. A.H. Reddy and Dr. Vijay were also present during the interactive session. The farmers and Army officials expressed thanks to the university and faculty of Agriculture Department.

Cross country was organised in association with Physical Education Foundation of India (PFEI) on 31st August 2017. Event was postponed from 29th August 2017 due to administrative reasons. T-shirts were distributed to all the participants. 

Judoka honoured for international achievement

DAV University honoured Preeti, a student pursuing B.P.Ed for her achievement in 18th Asian Junior Judo Championship. This championship was held in Bishkek of Kirgistan country from12 July to 17 July. 19 Country participated in this tournament and India participated with a contingent of 16 players in Men and Women section.India won three bronze medals in women section. Preeti participated in 44kg weight catagory and won bronze medal for India.

DAV University, Jalandhar in association with Central Institute of hand tools organized in campus summer internship on Modeling and analysis software Creo.

Department of Mechanical Engineering, DAV University, Jalandhar in association with Central Institute of hand tools organized in campus summer internship on Modeling and analysis software ‘Creo’.  27 students along with one faculty member attended the course. Students were apprised of the advanced concepts of solid, surface and assembly modeling using Creo.

New session begins with Yajna at DAV University

The Department of Psychology in association with NSS Unit organised an interaction on drug deaddiction on Wednesday. It was a unique initiative as rather than organising a seminar or lecture, this interaction was with youngsters (came from drug deaddiction centre) who have given up drug addiction. The youngsters are taking treatment at Bolster Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre, Jalandhar.
