Ukrainian Scientist Visited the DAV University to develop new materials for future generation Spintronics

Professor A. Tovstolytkin from Institute of Magnetism, Ukraine visited DAV University to carry out some investigations and discussions on Indo-Ukraine joint research project with Dr Gurmeet Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, DAV University, Jalandhar to develop future generation electronics i.e., Spintronics. The electronic devices based on magnetic multilayer are fastest and energy efficient. Dr A. Tovstolytkin is profound Scientist from Ukraine and had published his research work in the international reputed journals such as Nature Materials and Physical Review B. He was in the university for two weeks to carry out some experiments.

Professor A. Tovstolytkin also delivered a talk on “Magnetic Nanomaterials for Spintronics and Medical applications”. He discussed the possible mechanism to build spin-based devices. He shared his idea and research work with the faculty members and students of the university to explore the possibility to cure cancer disease with the help of magnetic nanoparticles. This technique has no side-effect as like of chemotherapy.

Dr. A.K. Paul, Vice Chancellor, welcomed Professor A. Tovstolytkin and shared his research interest in similar area. Dr. Naresh Sahajpal, Dean (Academics), interacted with the scientist and discussed the possibility of further collaboration with their institute. Dr. Rekha Kalia Bhardwaj, Registrar also interacted with the scientist. A memento was presented to Professor as a token of gratitude and remembrance.

DAV University organises self-defence camp for girls

The Women’s Empowerment Cell of DAV Univeristy, Jalandhar, along with Sanjay Karate Schools, organized a self-defence training camp for its girl students on 7th December, 2018. The expert for the session was the renowned Hanshi Alain Saily, the 8th Dan Goshindo and the international ambassador of the World Kobudo Federation who travels to almost 30 countries every year to spread the skills and values of martial arts.

A Faculty Development session was conducted by Harvard Business School Publishing for the faculty of Business studies on 3rd December, 2018. The speaker, Mr. Lav Nigam, focused on the methods which helped in making the transmission of knowledge from the faculty to the students highly effective.

Spectrum at DAV University concludes with music and dance

The last day of DAV University's talent hunt show Spectrum was dedicated to the competitions in various genres of performing arts including mono acting, mimicry, stand up comedy, street plays, song and dances. The programme was inaugurated by Prof Rakesh Kumar Mahajan, Vice Chancellor, Dr Jasbir Rishi, Dean Students' Welfare (DSW), Dr Sushma Arya, Registrar. Addressing the students, the Vice Chancellor Prof Mahajan said that the University was committed to nurture the hidden talent of the students. Dr Jasbir Rishi said that she was overwhelmed with the response to the programme. Some of hye students had the potential of carving out a niche in performing arts.

Seminar on “Drug Abuse: Its Causes and Prevention” at DAV University, Jalandhar

A seminar on Drug Abuse: It's Cause and Treatment was organized by the Department of Psychology at DAV University. Speakers in it inspired the students to stay away from any kind of addiction. The program was inaugurated by Dr. Rakesh Mahajan, Vice Chancellor of the University, by felicitating the Chief Guest, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Gurmeet Singh with a bouquet. Gurmeet Singh said that he is committed to protect the youth of the district from the rising evil of drug addiction.

Two-day talent hunt fest takes off at DAV University - Spectrum 2018

Newcomers and old students at DAV University exhibited their talent at the annual art and cultural show Spectrum. The function was aimed at discovering exceptionally talented students to represent the University at various co-curricular competitions at the state and national levels.

Seminar on protected cultivation at DAV University

Use of vertical spaces and barren land for farming hold the key to double the income of the farmers. These spaces, if used for protected cultivation of fruits and vegetables, could be used to achieve the government’s target of enhancing the farm income two-fold by the year 2022. This was highlighted by Prof K K Jindal, UGC adjunct faculty, Department of Horticulture, Sikkim Central University at a seminar at DAV University on “Protected Cultivation of Fruits and Vegetables”. He said that Chinese used waste wrapping material sourced from Japan for setting up protected structures and enhanced vegetable productivity. Such models could be replicated in India, he added. The seminar was organized by Department of Agricultural Sciences at DAV University.

Green Chemistry Workshop

A one day workshop on “Green Chemistry practices in education, research and industry” was organized by the Department of Chemistry, DAV University, on 23rd August 2018, in collaboration with Green Chemistry Network Centre (GCNC), New Delhi. The main speaker of the event, Prof. R.K. Sharma from Department of Chemistry, University of Delhi, co-ordinator of GCNC and also the Honorary Secretary of Royal Society of Chemistry, London, North India Section, shared his valuable knowledge on the subject with almost 400 students who attended the event.

Eminent poet Surjit Patar, folk artists Pammi Bai and Sukhi Brar enthrall at DAV University, Jalandhar

Noted poet and writer Surjit Patar enthralled students at Kala Utsav – a cultural fest organized by DAV University in association with Punjab Kala Parishad on 8th August 2018. Sr. Surjit Patar – who presided over the function – recited his poems and engaged the students in a motivational dialoguein order  to encourage them to lead a happy and meaningful life.

NCM Teacher’s Enrichment Workshop in Mathematics at DAV University

A six days Teacher’s Enrichment Workshop on Algebra and Multivariable Calculus commenced successfully on May 28, 2018 at DAV University, Jalandhar. This workshop was organised by the Department of Mathematics, DAV University, Jalandhar, in collaboration with National Center of Mathematics (NCM) which is a joint venture of IIT Bombay and TIFR Mumbai.
